Pride goes before the fall.
"I can make the brownies for you," Steve kindly offered. But these brownies were for church coffee hour and so I thanked him for the offer and reminded him that, "these have to go to church and I know how to make brownies." So he lovingly offered to get groceries instead.
He truly was thinking of every way he could help.
So he did sigh when a few hours after getting groceries he heard me discover we didn't actually have much icing sugar in the house!
He sighed and then offered to go back to the store.
I said no, we would make do with what we had. Of course, you probably know what happens when you try to ice brownies with too little icing. The top "skin" pulled up as I tried to spread and soon it started to look pretty messy. I wasn't too impressed but decided to leave it... On Steve's encouragement :)
But then the next morning I got up and walked to the kitchen. "They looked like we had mice on the counter overnight," I said to Steve when he gave me a look as I pulled out a sauce pan.
But making a 1/4 batch icing with not enough sugar meant the icing ended up quite a bit darker. And there wasn't enough to cover the whole pan.
And that is how we ended up bringing "embarrassing" bicolored brownies that still looked like the mice had chewed on them.
Not that I was embarrassed but my children sure thought I should be. They were amazed they were all gone before they came upstairs from Sunday school. :)
And unlike the brownies I'm not sure what pride needed humbling this time but let's just say dumping a crazy amount of paint while having visitors over made it feel like this picture fit with this post :) What this picture doesn't show is my graceful flight through the living room to get that orange rag, only to have my toe catch on my opposite pant leg and almost put on a gymnastics display right then and there. Fun times! :) :)
And, yes, that would be the garden hose snaked through the back door to wash probably a half gallon or more primer down the new tub drain. Sigh!
