Intermission

The line of clothes desperately trying to dry up after Aunty Krista had brought us new warm and dry ones.
The three other children will wait until tomorrow. I still have to get rid of all the sand I took home from the beach.

Our Victoria Day Part 2: Cara

I got a few more pictures of Cara. That is an understatement. She was not warm, clean or bored.

A little cautious at first. Toe curled up at the cold water.
Carefully checked it out.
And then jumped right in. And boy, do I mean right in.

Yup!

Her poor bottom half was so heavy! As a side note. It was cold at home when we left at 9:45 this morning. I thought I was doing my kids and I both a favor by making them wear jeans. I didn't envision THIS swimming at all. I imagined them getting cold and whining about it. So I strictly enforced the jeans and sweaters. Little did I know."My hands are dirty." And we all know what Cara does when she gets dirty hands. She makes a beeline for her mother and wipes her hands clean on her Mama's jeans. And after her hands were as clean as they were going to get she dropped her little wet butt right in the warmest spot she could find. Her Mama's lap.

She was cold. Poor wet and dirty little monkey.

But she was still so cute. See the little sand heart that had formed on her cheek?

She and Aunty Leanne went for a little walk to see the sail boat while we waited for Aunty Krista who was bringing some more dry clothes.
Then I pulled off her tshirt which added to the amount of sand on her face.

She changed into something dry and went right back at it with Tyler.

And figured her morning was complete with a few slices of watermelon.

One happy and tired girlie.

Our Victoria Day By Child

My sweet sis in law (the cute pregnant one) phoned us up this morning and invited us to come along on her trip to Harrison. I took close to 400 pictures and probably only managed to delete 100 so far. So, I decided to give you just a sample per child. Cody was the most obvious to start with because I have the least amount of pictures of him. He stayed a good 90 feet away from the water and so was the warmest, cleanest, boringest child :) That's not a bad thing. He played so nicely by himself.

Scooping sand and throwing it on the ground, our laps, our feet, our bags, our cameras etc.
Scoping out all the dogs ("goggies").
Scooping more sand...
...and raising it up a level.
Aunty Leanne gave him a licorice but when it fell in the sand he was quite disgusted and handed it over to me. I buried it for my friends the geese to find later on. Cody then changed his mind and decided a sandy licorice was better than no licorice at all, dug it up and finished it off. Eww! Crunch, crunch.
He took a bit of time to run around.
And figured his morning was complete with a few slices of watermelon.
One happy boy.

I was going to tell you about my cousin, Jon by name, who came and did my children a favor.

But first I have to tell you the life history of the basket ball net. At approx. 4:15 last Saturday afternoon I was going to head into town a minute when I happened upon this basketball net on the side of the road. There was a little sign on it that said... FREE. A lady was putting a few things in her vehicle and I quickly put down my window and asked her if she was taking the net. Nope, she was just getting rid of the stuff that hadn't been taken yet. She gave the impression to her companion that I was going to take the pile of stuff and so away they drove. I looked at the pile. There was a little fire engine, a trike, a ladder of some sorts... and the net. I just couldn't leave it there. I have a little sports maniac named Sam who's been practicing his dribbling and loves to play bball at the park net that's 18 feet too high. And this just-the-right-size-net was free. So I loaded it in. Along with the other stuff. I came home with a van load of someone else's junk. (Hi Brody :) ) (Cam took one look at the trike and fire truck and said whole heartedly, "fanks, Mama!")

Most of the kids were excited about the net. Sam was over the moon. The only problem was the net, although adjustable, didn't stay adjusted because of a malfunctioning broken piece of plastic. So we practiced at the lowest height.

In comes Jon. Or more precisely, over came Jon. He came inside to check out our new house and sit and yak a bit but my rude children kept opening the door every 30 seconds to see if he was, "coming yet."

Let that be a lesson to you. If you ever come over, and you are very welcome to stop by, don't promise the kids you'll play with them "in a bit" before coming inside. Just act like you're coming strictly to visit with me and then after a peaceful and appropriate amount has passed by you can go out and make them happy.

Them and me. It was peaceful inside while Jon was out.

First thing he did was go in the shop and help himself to a few things to make a little wedge or two. Then he wedged that wedge in place in order to keep the net up. Right now he's thinking, "get that camera out of here."

I'm still not sure my children were appropriately grateful. As you can see, Jon put a lot of effort into the whole shebang. In the meanwhile the kids were still taking shots and occasionally bouncing the ball off Jon's head. This guy's really nice! I would have told them to take a hike!
He showed them a few of the finer points of the game. Or at least some game.
And then got down to serious business.
And that net has been in service ever since. Even though it takes a wedge and rope to keep it in the right place.
A lot of fun for free.
Can you please get rid of that camera now?
Sure thing, Jon, I really don't want to pester someone who's been such a nice guy to the kids!

I have a post about my special day with Leah yesterday but it's going to take too long for tonight.
I have a post about a great cousin who stopped by, tinkered with the basketball net, played some bball with the kids and made my kids overall very happy. But I haven't even downloaded those pictures yet, never mind yesterday's.
I have a post about my latest diy project but it causes my blood pressure to do funny things and my blood pressure guage has forbidden me to any more funny things tonight.

But tonight, I went away with just Sam. We went to go check out a computer desk we saw on kajiji. Then we went to the preschool grad of a little buddy of his. Then we went back to the computer desk guy's house with the truck to get the rest of the desk. Sam said, "this was a special night." Mom asked, "what was the most special part?" Sam said, "staying up late past my bedtime, eating cupcakes and cookies and going away with you late at night!"
Then we went on to have the usual Sam conversation about, "when I grow up to be a Papa, I'm going to be a sports man." He added volleyball to his ongoing list but assured me that, "hockey is my favorite one."

Most of the time I love those kids. This morning was a bit tough but we got through the day and now I can peer in on them all sleeping and reassure you.... and me.... that I love those kids.
A whole lot.

I would show you our new computer desk but it's going to get a coat of paint first. It also might get a similar run in with the sandpaper. So it might be awhile.

Happy Hour at the Overduin's :)

Anyone want to join us? Be sure your volume is UP! :)

Cara has tonsillitis/ unconfirmed strep throat and so it's been a little more crazy here the last couple of days. To think I was worried about bothering the doctor about her lingering high fever!

From a few weeks back

I wrote this to share with our Overduin family and thought it worth (RE-TYPING because I can't seem to do a copy and paste) sharing here.

"Hello to everyone from Chilliwack, BC where the weather is sometimes sunny and sometimes not. I will admit the sunny days are often easier than the not sunny days. And today was not a sunny day. By the time bedtime came around there were more stressed people stumbling over toys than calm ones stumbling over those same toys. In fact, Leah at supper tonight asked, 'why don't you ever clean up around here while I am in school?' I mean, pardon me? Obviously it's because once I've stood with you at the bus stop and waved you off I just stay standing there for the next 8 hours waiting for you to come home again. Really, I almost convinced myself (while looking at the floor) that I probably don't do anything that entire time!"

If I remember correctly she was eating supper at the time of the quote. If I did nothing else the entire day at least she was fed!

It's good she gives me things to laugh about.

Problem of today is that it kinda has the same feel to it. The boys cleaned up the living room floor really nicely and the babies came right behind them and dumped all the books back on the floor plus a few other misc. items to keep it interesting.

Cara is sick, not so sick she couldn't help make the mess but that was this morning. She has a fever again this afternoon, 39.7, and it's always hard to see my bundle of energy just laying around.

I'm off to do some more cleaning up. I want to make sure the floor is up to snuff before 3:45!
